Why Hire a Parenting Coach?
When someone asks me what I do for a living, I can usually expect one of two reactions. Sometimes it’s a blank or confused look with a head-tilt and an, “Oh.” Other times, it’s wide-eyes and an, “Ooohhh!” With this reaction I can tell they want to know more. What follows next is what lights me up inside - connecting on the challenges of raising small people and the deep desire to do right by our kids. And near the end of almost every one of these interactions I say something like, “I understand. I can help.”
Parenting brings us to the depths of human emotions. It sparks memories and feelings from our own childhood. It calls us to consider our values. It challenges our relationships. Parenting is the most important job any of us could have, and yet it’s the area of our lives so many of us feel the least supported in.
People hire coaches for all sort of things: Career; Executive Leadership; Personal Finances; Life Path; Physical Strength or Weight Loss; Spirituality; College Admissions; and so much more. And while I haven’t worked with any of these types of coaches, I can say that working with the right parenting coach can make an impact on your parenting now and in all the years to come. It’s one of the most worthy investments I can think of.
( As I like to put it, it’s cheaper than Botox and it lasts longer. ;) )
So who can benefit from a parenting coach? Literally any parent. But let’s break it down into three categories:
The parent who is crushing it: You need support too. And while you might not be drowning, a coach can not only support you in your parenting but also support you as an individual. They can offer the tools and strategies that make it feel more like floating than treading water.
The parent who is getting crushed: You need a life preserver. And that’s ok. You’ll take it one step at a time with your coach and your progress and confidence will build over time. You are already a good parent. You have all of the answers inside of you. A coach will help you uncover those answers.
Everyone else: There really isn’t anyone who couldn’t benefit from this kind of work. And that’s because this type of coaching is parent-centric. It’s grounded in the belief that not only are you already a good parent, your kid is already a good kid. No one is broken and no one needs fixed. But if you’re feeling the pull to parent differently - with more peace, connection, and authenticity - then hiring a parenting coach is most definitely for you!
So whether you’ve been thinking about getting the support of a parenting coach or this is totally new to you, know that this isn’t something you need but it’s the kind of support you deserve.
